Friends for Life! (The English Roses #1)

Friends for Life! (The English Roses #1)

By Madonna

This book is the first in the series, but it's a filled-in journal rather than a small chapter book the way the others are. By filled-in, I mean that each friend filled out their own area of the book with their own handwriting and personality, so it's like an introduction to them and their worlds. I love it though! I've read it so many times because it's so fun to read when I'm too tired for a big chapter book.

Island of Fire (The Unwanteds)

Island of Fire (The Unwanteds)

By Lisa McMann

Island of Fire starts right where Island of Silence left off, and Alex and the rest of the inhabitants of Artimé are shocked that their incredible home just disappeared before their eyes. Everyone is living in a gray shack, surviving on what little food and water they have. Now Alex is their leader, and he has to figure out how to make Artimé come back before it is too late. Meghan and Samheed are still on Warbler Island, in complete darkness and unable to speak because of thorn necklaces sewn into their necks. With all of these burdens and responsibilities on his back, will Alex be able to handle it all? Will the Artiméans with thorn necklaces be able to speak again? In a wonderful third installment of a thrilling and enjoyable series, Island of Fire will leave readers wanting more. Lisa McMann strikes again with another excellent novel. My thoughts: I really enjoyed this book. It was a great addition to the Unwanteds series, and I can not wait for the following books. The description was great in this book, and Lisa does a great job of making the world of The Unwanteds series very vivid and realistic. Like book one and two, I absolutely LOVE the cover art. Owen Richardson is the perfect cover artist for this series. For some reason, even though it was 464 pages long I thought it was too short. Maybe it’s because there aren’t many words on the page, or that when I read it I was on a road trip. Lisa McMann, keep writing, and I will be reading. Can’t wait to see Lisa @ #AustinTeenBookFestival! :-) I truly can not wait to read book 4 (and see the cover and title); my guess for the title is Island of Water. I bet I’ll be like, “Told ya so! :-) Also, I want to thank Emma Sector at Simon and Schuster for sending me an ARC of this book. Thank you so much, Emma!

The Real Boy

The Real Boy

By Anne Ursu

The real boy is about a boy named Oscar. Oscar lives on an island in a place called the Barrow, where he is the hand for the greatest magician in the barrow, Caleb. Oscar is shy around many other people. There is also a city near the Barrow called Asteri, but the people living inside the Barrow call it The Shining City. The people in Asteri are supposed to be perfect. The problem in the story is the City children are getting sick. Also, something is stealing magical things from the marketplace. Find out how Oscar deals with these problems by reading the book. I think the lesson of this story is to use your own power to deal wit problems without things like magic to help you. If you like books about magic, this is the perfect book for you.

A Dog's Life: The Autobiography Of A Stray

A Dog's Life: The Autobiography Of A Stray

By Ann M Martin, Ann M. Martin

I really like this book because it puts things into a whole new perspective. Instead of writing in third person, the author makes it seem like the dog is an actual human being in a dog's body. The story is altogether a really sweet, cute and touching tale although there were sad parts where Squirrel (the dog) encountered obstacles. This book is really memorable because it's very different from the other dog novels. I also think the whole book is one big metaphor because it tells us about the obstacles in life and how we have to overcome them, so it was very inspirational for me. I totally recommend this book to all animal lovers! A must read!

Anna and the French Kiss

Anna and the French Kiss

By Stephanie Perkins

This book was so good! It's really romantic, sweet and cute, but it's so much more than that. The book was also funny and unique. Instead of a simple sweet little romance, this book has quick witted, intense humor and its characters are simply out of this world. Anna, the protagonist, has the strongest voice, and all her actions and dialogue just showcases her personality even better, even when she has flaws and insecurities. I learned that you don't have to be perfect to be a hero. There were so many things that I loved in the book. For one, the plot - Anna and St.Clair start out as friends. Anna has feelings for a co-worker back at home in the States while St.Clair has a girlfriend that is much older than he is. The author doesn't rush the plot like some other authors do, instead she lets the whole story build up slowly, and that's what I really like about this book.

Dress Coded

Dress Coded

By Carrie Firestone

Molly Frost is an 8th grader who notices injustice in her school. Mr. Dern, Dr. Couchman, and Fingertip are on dress-code patrol, but here's the problem. They are only dress coding girls. For the silliest of reasons. And what's worse is that they are only dress coding the girls with curves, while girls like Molly, who are late bloomers, or in other words, 'invisible' are completely shunned. Molly and her friends are outraged by this, so Molly decides to start a podcast. She has guest come on her podcast, and share the story about how they got dress-coded. From tampon fails, to fevers. From showing shoulders, to sunburn. The more episodes the podcast has, the more drama gets stirred up, and what's worse, is Molly's home situation. Her older brother is addicted to vaping, and her mother is always stressed. But everything that happens is actually a big help to Molly. Before, nobody listened, let alone even cared about the podcast. Now, everybody listens to it, and it even grabs attention by places outside of the school. This story also feature LGBTQ+ awareness, vaping, and smoking addiction, nicotine dealing, bullying, sibling rivalry, puberty, women's rights, friendship, and so much more. It teaches girls and boys not to be ashamed of who they are, what they wear, and what they look like. Full of soul and emotion to the point where I even felt the same emotions as Molly. I highly recommend it. This is by far my favorite book.

Lauren The Puppy Fairy (Pet Fairies #4)

By Daisy Meadows

i think the puppies she cares for are as cute as a little button. but i think the goblins that work for Jack Frost should get a lot smarter in order to out smart the fairies.
