From Newbery Honoree Carl Hiaasen comes this New York Times bestseller set in Florida's Everglades in which an eccentric eco-avenger, a stuffed rat named Chelsea, a wannabe Texas oilman, a singing substitute teacher, and a ticked-off panther can’t stop two kids on a mission to find their missing teacher!

Bunny Starch, the most feared biology teacher ever, is missing. She disappeared after a school field trip to Black Vine Swamp. And, to be honest, the kids in her class are relieved.

But when the principal tries to tell the students that Mrs. Starch has been called away on a "family emergency," Nick and Marta just don't buy it. No, they figure the class delinquent, Smoke, has something to do with her disappearance.

And he does! But not in the way they think. There's a lot more going on in Black Vine Swamp than any one player in this twisted tale can see. It’s all about to hit the fan, and when it does, the bad guys better scat.

“Ingenious . . . Scat won’t disappoint Hiaasenphiles of any age.” —The New York Times

“Woohoo! It’s time for another trip to Florida—screwy, gorgeous Florida, with its swamps and scammers and strange creatures (two- and four-legged). Our guide, of course, is Carl Hiaasen.” —DenverPost.com

A good book. After the most feared biology teacher in Truman school goes missing in a swamp during a fire( miss starch), Nick and Martha (Two of her students) set out to try and investigate the disappearance. The fire turns out to be a , and the town suspects a well known pyro, Duane, also known as Smoke. Slowly the story unravels, leading readers on a trail of adventure, following Nick and Martha on their adventures to figure out the mystery. Can they do it before time runs out?

Scat is a great book. It's about how a boy and a girl, Nick and Marta, are trying to solve a mystery about their biology teacher going missing in a field trip at the swamp. Everyone suspects a kid called Smoke had something to do with their teacher's disappearance. Later, Nick and Marta realize that he does, but not in the way that they think. Determined to solve the mystery, they investigate more and are pulled into an adventure at the swamp including an oilman, a man who camps in the swamp, and a panther. It's a really exciting mystery book, and I enjoyed it. My connection to this book is text-to-text because I read a book where people disappear and they find them in a forest. I give this book a 5-star because it is very exciting with many plot twists and hooks to keep you reading.
