Annie Sullivan was little more than a half-blind orphan with a fiery tongue when she arrived at Ivy Green in 1887. Desperate for work, she'd taken on a seemingly impossible job -- teaching a child who was deaf, blind, and as ferocious as any wild animal. But Helen Keller needed more than a teacher. She needed someone daring enough to work a miracle. And if anyone was a match for Helen, it was the girl they used to call Miss Spitfire.

For Annie, reaching Helen's mind meant losing teeth as raging fists flew. It meant standing up when everyone else had given up. It meant shedding tears at the frustrations and at the triumphs. By telling this inspiring story from Annie Sullivan's point of view, Sarah Miller's debut novel brings an amazing figure to sharp new life. Annie's past, her brazen determination, and her connection to the girl who would call her Teacher have never been clearer.

Usually books focus on Helen Keller. But what do we know about her extraordinary teacher, Annie Sullivan? This book is amazing, so good that I own a copy myself! I like to have it at my bed so before I sleep I can read the triumphs of Annie Sullivan. Miss Spitfire is Annie's nickname. She is fierce and determined-and without her fierce determination she would not have had the breakthrough with Helen Keller. Helen is a beast. She is treated cautiously and never deprived of anything. Cake is always close at hand to calm the wild child. Annie Sullivan arrives-a new teacher, half blind, with the determination that has ensured her education and personality. Helen needs more than a teacher. She needs someone to love her in a way that her parent's couldn't possibly. She needs a miracle worker.

Fairy Godmother Fairy Godmother

From the way the summary sounds this is a good book. Me and a partner are researching Annie and Helen for a wax museum and I think this will be a good book to read.

This book is so sad and it is so good.

I love this book. It's funny but also serious and I would recommend reading it.

I loved this book and I would read it again. I love the part where she starts to understand language. I just wish that it would be a longer book.
