Mary Poppins is like no other nanny the four Banks children have ever seen.  She whirls into their home and "spit-spot", she works her inimitable brand of magic to make even the bland seem extraordinary.  An endless source of fascinating adventure, she slides up the banister, produces an endless array of tricks from her empty carpetbag, and ensures their lives will never be the same.

Jane and Michael hate their nanny, Katie Nanna. The two children and their family live on Number Seventeenth in Cherry-Tree Lane, the smallest house on the street. When Katie Nanna leaves, Jane ad Michael are overjoyed. But they're also worried. Will their next nanny be boring and old, like Katie Nanna? They soon find out when their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Banks, put an ad in the newspaper. Mr.Banks predicts that hundreds of nannies will line up for the job, but only one does. Her name is Marry Poppins, and she's young and also very strange. She can talk to animals and has a magical bag made of carpets! With Mary Poppins, the children have many weird adventures. I liked this book because it was interesting and funny.

i love the movie and book but the book is more fun no the movie is more more fun then the book

Marry Poppins was unique and I've never read anything like it. Every chapter was entertaining and left you wanting more. My favorite chapter was probably "Miss Lark's Andrew". It was about a woman named Miss Lark that owned a dog named Andrew and had a house so fine that even Admiral Boom himself was jealous! He had a house that looked like a ship and had a tall flagpole in the centre of his flowerbed. Andrew on the other hand was miserable. Although he was treated as though he were a prince he longed to be a normal dog. He was treated a little too much like royalty. His best friend was a stray golden retriever-or as Miss Lark would say, "a common dog"- and they spent a lot of time together. Meanwhile, Mary Poppins was on a stroll with Jane, Michael, John, and Barbra. Mary Poppins arrived just in time to translate Andrew's barking so he and Miss Lark could have a proper argument. At the end of it all, Miss Lark now lives with "the common dog" and her "dear little Andrew".

If you have seen the Disney movie, i is completely different! The book is almost an opposite world for the characters. Though they are both great, I think the characters should have different names because they are so different.
