Shortly after watching the movie and LOVING it, I got the book. And I ended up loving it even more than the movie. (The movie basically took the book and chopped all the scenes and moments in half.) The Princess Bride gives so much detail, and beauty, and descriptions and you can see everything in your mind. It is a tale of "fencing, fighting, torture, poison, true love, hate, revenge, giants, hunters, bad men, good men, beautifulest ladies, snakes, spiders, beasts of all natures and descriptions, pain, death, brave men, coward men, strongest men, chases, escapes, lies, truths, passion, and miracles." (If you read that whole paragraph I commend you.) You get to sympathize with everyone (except Prince Humperdinck, Vizzini, and Count Rugen) going from Buttercup to Westley to Inigo to Fezzik and every one of them has a story that is no less than heartbreaking, thrilling, beautiful, or painful. This book is proof that old books are just as good stories as any modern book, and you NEED to read this if you ever crave adventure, true love, or if you just need a book that you will read and re-read over and over!Almost 8 years agohappypug12 added a book review.

This is my second time reading Half Upon A Time. Same as the last time, it starts slowly. For those of you who need witches throwing exploding cherries and dragons that would randomly love to annihilate the main character right off the bat, go read Of Giants and Ice. But otherwise, read this book to the last page, as this author has been known to save the best for last. All characters are realistically portrayed, May as the frantic teen who would do basically ANYTHING to save her grandmother, Jack as the innocent guy who gets caught in the madness and has an unintentional tendency of making things worse, and Phillip as the annoying perfect guy. Mix all those people together and, well, yeah, you have an adventure that is, sooner or later, bound to go horribly, horribly wrong.Almost 8 years agohappypug12 has read this book.
