When the substitute for Mr. "Fab" Fabiano never shows up and his sixth-grade students are on their own, they set out to prove that they can run the class by themselves. With a little ingenuity and some careful planning, they might just succeed. But when a fight breaks out between Bastian Fauvell and Rachel White over a classmate, Tommy Feathers, who died six months earlier, everything begins to fall apart. Can Rachel deal with the anxieties that plunged her into silence the day Tommy died? Inventive and uniquely constructed, "Flying Solo" follows Mr. Fab's students hour by hour as they tackle the challenges of an unusual school day.

Imagine going to school and there was no teacher. You go in your classroom and there are only kids . You have no one to teach you to throw out the school day. In the book Flying Solo by Ralph Fletcher , the characters have to deal with a whole day without a teacher . The book has illustrations too. The setting of the book is mainly in school . The antagonist in the Flying Solo is Rachel Wright. She is a selective mute and hasn't talked for six months. If you like a book that gets you to the edge of your set then you'll like this book. I think this book would be appropriate for kids 5th grade and up.

I think that this book was too short and very sad, and those two combined DO NOT make the perfect book. This book is about a group of kids whose teacher is gone. They have no sub, and they are on their own. Rachel, a girl who doesn't like to talk, doesn't talk because of an incident a while back. This book has bullies, sadness, kindness, ans surprises. I don't recommend this book, but if you like it, I won't judge.

I give this book a 3 because I didn't really understand it well it was hard to get the book but I enjoy reading it. They only sad part is when someone died it was very hard for that family, not a lot of people knew about besides Rachel but she wasn't really nice to him and she regrets doing it and she missed him and she wanted to say sorry for what she had done but when she got to his house it was too late and she regrets it.

It's been exactly 6 months since Rachel's classmate, Tommy Feathers, has died. But the thing is, only she knows it and nobody else seems to remember. Filling with guilt, Rachel remembers the times when she wasn't very nice to him and regrets it. Meanwhile, Bastian is moving to Hawaii and worries about his dog, which will have to go through quarintine. The other classmates also have their own worries but when they find out that their teahcer and the substitute teacher are no where to be found, the students will have to run the class by themselves. Soon the students get in a fight and Rachel speakd up, revealing hurtful words. Will they be able to fly solo? Or crash?

Great book. Funny to read and easy to read. It shows that kids can do anything they want without an adult.

I liked this book. It was fun to read and was funny

Currently, I'm reading about flying solo. I've been interested in how the author organizes the story into everyone's point of view, just like the popular book wonder. So far, I'm loving it!

I agree with you! I read the book and thought it was interesting how the author came up with this story. And the point of views in the book is kind of like wonder.

This is a great, and funny book. it is about a sixth grade class that run the day by themselves. Bastian has to move to Florida and leave his dog in a care place. Theree is a girl (Rachel) that won't talk because her friend Tommy Feathers died. They call their teacher (Mr. Fabiano) "Mr. Fab" :)

This book is about a class that doesn't have a teacher, and they decide to run the class themselves. I loved this book. It had lots of problems that they fixed on their own, funny parts, and lots of heart. If you like books with all of those traits you should definitely read this!
