”American born Chinese” By Gene Luen Yang is a graphic novel story which takes place in a mythical world/ Heaven and America. The characters Are Jin Wang, Monkey king, and Danny. This novel started When the monkey king went to a big party in Heaven and he was denied access because he was a monkey and did not wear shoes. The Monkey king took matters into his own hand and beat them all up. This made the monkey king change who he really was and he tried to bet the best and tried to fit in with all the other gods, this correlates with every other character in this novel. Jin was the only Chinese American boy in his class so he always felt like the odd one out so he wished he was and American boy so he wouldn’t feel so alone so later on in life it forced him the change how he looked.Danny is an all American boy and he has a cousin from China which all ways embarrasses him and ruins his reputation so he transfers schools every year so he doesn’t have to bare the embarrassment. Some topics in this story are self appreciation, friendship and loving yourself. I recommend this book to you because this is a short cool graphic novel and you can learn valuable lessons when you read this book I would rate this a 5/5 book got read it

To me this book was kinda very weird and confusing. I this book it goes back forth between the monkey king ,jin , and Danny . Jin doesn't really like how people act to him just because he was from China . So he tries to change himself so everyone would like him . So he makes his hair different . Then at the end of the book jin turns into Danny . And he was Danny all along . I think that every one should read this book just because of how interesting it was . I rate this book 4/5 stars . Thank you for reading my review! - Pizzagirl7😁

What do 3 different can and 3 different views have in common? Wanting to fit in. Ok so the first character is The Monkey King: the monkey is.. Well the king of monkeys (duh lol) and he really wants to go a dinner party with the gods. But there like "No your a monkey! You don't even where shoes! " and the monkey king starts changing things about him so he can fit in with the gods... But he starts to lose himself along the way. The second character is Jin Wang: Jin Wang is a Chinese -American boy and is starting a brand new school. He meets another kid in his class who is from Taiwan. Jin doesn't really want to be friends with a FOB (fresh of the boat) like him (but they do become sorta friends.) He just wants to be an "all American boy" he also starts to lose himself trying to fit in! The third character is Danny: Danny is a popular guy, great at basketball, and girls love him. When his cousin Chin-Kee visits him for a few weeks Danny is so worried about his reputation that he hates when his cousin comes to visit. Danny also starts to lose him self for the sake of fitting in. This book has won many awards and was super amazing! I recommend to EVERYONE!! Thanks for reading -Ajg16's reviews

This is a really good book. American Born Chinese is in 3 perspectives. There is the perspective of Jin Wang, who just moved into a new neighborhood, and is the only American-Chinese in his school. He is bullied and left as an outsider in his school. The next perspective is the Monkey King. The Monkey King is the king of the monkeys, but that isn't enough. He wants to be known as a god to the monkeys. The last perspective is from Danny. All Danny wants is to have a normal school year. But NO. Danny's cousin Chin-Kee, also known as the most annoying person ever, has to barge in and ruin his whole life. Every time Chin-Kee comes, Danny's social life goes Down. The. Drain. Every year Danny has to move to a new school because the bullying is so bad. This book is such a good book and I recommend it to anyone out there looking for a good book to read.

American born Chinese is a good book all in all, and I hope you will think good things of my review. In the book there are 3 stories, which makes the book interesting enough. Jin Wang is a Chinese-American boy in his new neighborhood and is, in fact, the only one in his school! He is constantly being picked on by bullies and makes it all worse by falling in love with an All-American girl. The Monkey King’s story about ruling over all monkeys is one of the oldest and greatest Chinese fables. But the Monkey King doesn’t want to be a monkey, he wants to be known as a god. Danny’s cousin Chin-Kee is a combination of every negative Chinese stereotype and shows it a little too much. Danny is a good athlete and a popular kid at school, but every time Chin-Kee comes around to visit by the end of the year it gets so bad that Danny has to transfer to a new school. I give this book five stars. I liked the comedy and the unique story telling. It was actually fun to read. I hope this author makes more good graphic novels like this one.
